The HDU is a 2 bedded unit located on the second floor of the building, near the ICU. It is designed especially for patients who require more intensive observation than is provided by the general wards, and yet do not warrant the severity of the ICU. It offers a standard of care that bridges the gap between the general ward and the Intensive Care Unit. The unit is primarily managed by our resident anaesthetist, in addition to their primary physician/surgeon. To meet the increased needs of the patient, nurse to patient ratio within the HDU is maintained at 1:1; higher than most other hospitals. Patients admitted to this unit may need single organ support (i.e. renal dialysis or inotrope monitoring). As such, visitations to this unit is may be limited. Please consult with the primary physician/surgeon, or our in-charge anaesthetist before entering the unit.
The ICU is a 2 bedded unit located on the second floor of the building. The unit is fully equipped with advanced life-support equipment designed to support the specialised care essential for the recovery of the difficult cases that are admitted to the ICU. The unit is primarily managed by our resident anaesthetist, though patient management is collaboratively undertaken by both medical and surgical doctors, depending on the needs of the patient. To meet the increased monitoring and care needed for ICU patients, the nurse to patient ratio within the ICU is maintained at 1:1; with a specialist on-call 24 hours a day. Critical Care Nurses are also specially trained to provide additional nursing care and interventions as needed. Patients admitted to the ICU often required support for two or more organs, or require mechanical ventilation. As such, visitations may be limited or in rare cases, completely prohibited depending on the situation. Please consult with the primary physician/surgeon, or our in-charge anaesthetist before entering the unit.
